Primary School
With the financial help of Al-Mustafa Trust International (ATI) www.al-mustafa.co.uk, Life Plus has built a village primary school in the village of Pachim Amrita in the district of Habigonj, Union Snanghat. The school was built in just four weeks at a cost of £1350. The school opened in January 2009 and now has over 150 registered students who would otherwise have remained illiterate. We have also provided the school with a sanitary toilet and clean drinking water pump. We hope to continue supporting the school, its teachers and students in whatever way we can.
Secondary School
Following the successful completion of the building of a primary school and the start of classes in January 2009, we have embarked on an ambitious plan to build the first secondary school in the locality (union). This will be located in close proximity to the primary school in Habiogonj District, Bahubol Thana, Snangath Union in the village of Kalapur (Khagaura). The locality comprises of over 10 villages and has a population of more than 20,000.
The proposed secondary school will be built on an acre of land, two thirds of which has already been acquired by Life Plus. It will be situated next to a government-owned 3 acre lake and a large football ground.
We are now working to acquire a further one third of an acre of land to ensure that the school has sufficient space.
Phase 1 of the Secondary School project started in March 2009 and involved raising the earth by seven feet from the ground to prevent flooding, at a cost of £1,500. The foundation stone laying ceremony was conducted by the Minister for Social Development for the Bangladesh Government, Mr Mustafa Shohid MP on 19th March 2009.
Work on Phase 2 has commenced. We are seeking to raise £10,000 to ensure the building is completed and the school is ready for students' intake in January 2011. This phase will involve: further earth raising (£1,000); construction of tin shed school buildings (£5,500), purchase of equipment, furniture and stationary (£2,000) and installation of a security fence (£1,500).
