Life Plus Health Clinic

In February 2009, Life Plus opened a clinic to provide basic health services including a maternity unit specialising in delivery. It took 2 years to build at a cost of £25,000. The clinic is managed and run by a senior midwife with 2 assistants. Currently the clinic is serving over 20 patients daily and dozens of babies have been delivered in the maternity unit. The clinic is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Current requirement:

  • Erecting walled fence for security - £3000
  • Monthly running cost £360 = £4320 per annum

Water Aid

Shallow Water Pumps

Since the early days of the charity we have been providing vital clean drinking water facilities for the people in the rural villages. This has been mainly through the supply and installation of shallow water pumps, which pump water from around 250ft below ground level and provide water for a number of families.

Deep Tube wells

Life Plus has also provided deep water pumps. These are dug below 500ft and have a larger capacity, (hence the water is much purer), and can cater for a small village and/ or can be used for irrigation of rice fields for poor farmers in the dry and drought season.

Cost:

  • Shallow pump: pipe & pump, labour, other materials - £110
  • Deep well: generator, pipe & pump, labour, other materials - £550

Cataracts Removal

We have been helping people with eye problems have their cataracts removed. This simple procedure ensures not only the restoration of sight but enables them to then live their life freely and support their dependents.

Cost:

  • Removal of cataracts £80 p/p

Quarterly Free Medical Camps

We aim to carry out a free medical camp every quarter. The free medical camp programme brings in doctors and nurses from the towns and cities to provide much needed consultation, treatment and medication. A typical camp will see over 500-800 people over a few days.

Cost:

  • Expenses and food for doctors and nurses, medication, transportation, admin etc £400 per camp

Ambulance

The Union of Snangath has a population of over 20,000 and not a single health clinic or hospital, which means that most patients have to travel on foot and more seriously ill patients have to be carried in bamboo baskets. Life Plus plans to alleviate the suffering by purchasing an ambulance to take seriously ill patients to the nearest hospitals. The ambulance will not only service Snangath but the nearby unions as well.

Cost - £12,000
